About Hospital in the Rock Nuclear Bunker Museum

The Hospital in the Rock is a preserved emergency hospital and nuclear bunker hidden in the cave system beneath Buda Castle. It treated the wounded during the Second World War and the 1956 revolution, and was later fitted out as a secret Cold War fallout shelter.

Today it is a museum visited only on a guided tour, with waxwork scenes recreating the wards, operating theatres and bunker as they were. English-language tours are limited each day and are the first to sell out.

Frequently asked

Is entry really only by guided tour?

Yes. The museum can only be visited on a guided tour of about 60 minutes. We secure your place so you don't have to queue.

Will my tour be in English?

Yes — we book you onto an English-language departure. These are limited each day, which is why booking ahead matters.

How do I receive my booking?

You'll get an email confirmation after checkout. We arrange the admission with the museum on your behalf.

Can young children visit?

Children under 6 are not admitted, and the museum is not recommended under 12. Children aged 6–12 must be accompanied by an adult.

Can I get a refund?

All sales are final, except where the museum is unable to provide the admission you booked, in which case you are refunded in full.

Are you the official museum?

No. We are an independent booking service that arranges your admission. The museum is operated independently.
